Uncharted 2 è stato un titolo di grandissimo successo, apprezzato sia dal pubblico (oltre 3,5 milioni di copie vendute e consideriamo che è disponibile solo per Ps3), sia dalla critica che gli ha elargito voti entusiastici.
Non c'è quindi da meravigliarsi di quanto il seguito sia atteso, e finalmente Naughty Dog ha annunciato ufficialmente che Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception è in fase di sviluppo e dovrebbe essere disponibile per Ps3 alla fine del 2011; la notizia è apparsa in anteprima sul sito Entertainment Weekly che rivela altre importanti novità, pubblica alcuni artwork e un teaser trailer.
Le novità riguardano molteplici aspetti del gioco, ambientazione, gameplay, aspetto tecnico, multiplayer.
"UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception features the return of famed fortune hunter Nathan Drake and follows him through a gripping, action-packed storyline that will take you all over the world. In his search for the fabled “Atlantis of the Sands,” Nathan Drake and longtime friend and mentor Victor Sullivan set off on a daring trek into the heart of the Arabian Desert. But when terrible secrets of this lost city are uncovered, their journey becomes a desperate bid for survival that will force Drake to confront his deepest fears.
Throughout UNCHARTED 3, you’ll be taken to spectacular new locations around the globe that will showcase all of the work we’ve taken on to take acclaimed physics, particle and visual effects to a new level.
Competitive and co-op multiplayer will return as a key ingredient to the UNCHARTED 3 package, where all of the new features we have planned will combine with our signature single-player cinematic gameplay to create a unique action-adventure multiplayer experience that can only be found in the UNCHARTED universe.

Questo è quanto afferma Arne Meyer sul suo blog ufficiale, Nathan Drake questa volta però avrà parecchio a che fare con la sabbia, come dimostrano anche le immagini seguenti:
Gli sviluppatori si sono concentrati molto sull'aspetto tecnico e il gameplay, cercando di realizzare un titolo che fornisca un'esperienza cinematica interattiva, facendo ad esempio uso delle tecniche cinematografiche di motion capture; l'ambientazione sarà in continuo mutamento e il giocatore dovrà adattarsi a ciò, avrà a disposizione nuovi elementi legati al gameplay come la possibilità di combattere diversi nemici contemporaneamente e di arrampicarsi all'indietro. Per quanto riguarda il multiplayer le intenzioni sono chiare, realizzare un'esperienza multigiocatore unica nel suo genere.
